For the Love of Horses

Considering becoming a rider, are a lifelong equestrian, or simply love the majestic beauty of horses? Join us for this incredible free community event celebrating Newtown’s equestrian history. Meet and interact with the horses, learn equine care through hands-on demonstrations, and experience an official color guard opening. Plus, seasoned equestrians who have their own horses are invited to join in our guided trail ride. And don’t forget to convene at our craft table to create your own take-away art!
Event schedule and highlights include: 

  • 9:30: 2nd Company Governors Horse Guard Color Guard Opening
  • 9:45: “Share the Trail Etiquette” with Jillian Boag
  • 10:00: “Lose the Shoes” with the Barefoot Trimmer, Donna Collins
  • 10:40: “All the Pretty Horses” – horse grooming essentials led by NBLA
  • 11:00: “What on earth do I wear? Riding gear essentials to start” with Christine Fitzgerald of The Riders Closet
  • 11:20: “Responsible Horsemanship” with Rising Starr Horse Rescue Junior Executive Board
  • 11:30: Horse First Aid
  • 11:40: “The Story of Us. Celebrating the horse human connection” with Rebecca Howard Hathaway of Sandy Hook Equestrian Center. A rollicking ride through the last 55 million years of evolution – as explained by Rebecca and one of her best friends, Elliot (a horse of course) and a special guest appearance by Eohippus, the ancestor of all equines!

Guided Trail Ride
Limited to 40 riders and must bring own horse
Trailers must park at 2nd Governor’s Horse Guard

  • 8:00am Horses and Trailers park at 2GHG
  • 9:00am Mount and make way to CVH Animal Sanctuary Green
  • 9:30am 2GHG Color Guard Opening and National Anthem (all in attendance standing)
  • 9:45am Trail Ride Departs
